The Kaiserbründl Herrensauna also known as the Central Bath House of Vienna is a historical establishment. It has been discovered to be used even during Roman times, following the discovery of ancient coins linked to the Emperors Heliogabalus and Alexander Severus. This makes this gay sauna more unique than others, with its own magical atmosphere that takes you back in time for 20 euro entry price.
The Kaiserbründl consists of 3 main floors. Upon entry you will be given an electronic key bracelet and will be directed to walk up to the upper floor where lockers are spread throughout. For each section of lockers, you will be able to simply put the bracelet in a dedicated area and the relevant locker will open up – a cool modern feature in a very authentic and old venue. Walking down the stairs leads to the main bar (non smoking). Most of the facilities are located at the bottom floor and include a big pool, wet sauna, two dry saunas, foam area (active on Saturdays) a big lounge, cruising corridors, and a big smoking bar. There is also a massage room hidden in a special area on the main floor only accessible when booking a massage. Also in the Kaiserbründl Herrensauna is a huge relaxation area with yet another bar, kinky gloryhole area, private cabins for rental (with additional cost) and a full menu including soups, salads and desserts as well as coffee and alcohol.
This is one of the strength of this gay sauna. A huge variety of men of all ages and appearances frequent Kaiserbründl as it is conveniently located in the heart of Vienna, 5 min walk from the central Stephansplatz. Anyone and everyone attending can have fun here.
As I said before, this building is unique and maintained in a satisfactory manner, though, some things could be improved. Firstly, the pool is cold, which results in practically no one bathing in it. Also, the water color did not look very clean to me so I decided to skip it. The wet sauna though was clean, smelled good and was always packed. The place is very big but still did not feel empty as its structure is well designed. I attended on a Saturday where they activate the foam room which is basically a foam party where everyone can dance and enjoy.
The crew is professional and attentive, serving both drinks and food as well as massages. Keep in mind though, that the massage here is not too “professional”, meaning, you can definitely expect a “special service”. If this is what you are looking for, you just found it, as it is also very reasonably prices at 20 Euros for 20 min and 40 Euros for 40 minutes.
The Kaiserbründl Herrensauna is a definite must for gay sauna lovers, though it has its downsides such as the lack of a jacuzzi or a hot pool which seems like a requirement in such a cold city as Vienna. But its authenticness and history overcomes its cons and makes it a must visit when in Austria.
All in all, I give the Kaiserbründl Herrensauna a good 80 degrees celcius out of the boiling 100 – so it is not to be missed!
The Kaiserbründl Herrensauna is located at Weihburggasse 18, Vienna
